I was wondering if there is a big differance performance and speed wise
between the regular K8V and the K8V Deluxe?

I don't think the regular K8V even exists...
But if it does, there will be exactly 0% performance difference, it will
just miss some features (like additional sata ports for instance).

Yes it does .... I received mine, from NewEgg, last week ....
you're right tho, the only diff I can see upfront, is NO 1394 port,
only 2 IDE instead of 3 channels, and two less SATA......

As there isnt any great price difference, between the two, I would
guess it is probably worth it to spend the extra 10 bucks or
so for the deluxe, just to have the extra capabilities. (even if you
have no need for them now)

(I THOUGHT I was ordering a deluxe, as there was no mention of
a regular K8V on asus's web site, but, soon found out if I had just
'scrolled' the page down a notch, I would have seen I was ordering
just the plain and not the deluxe)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

It is mentioned here. The main difference I can see is that it doesn't
have the Wi-Fi slot. It doesn't seem to have the voice POST reporter
either.

There is also the K8V Deluxe

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket754/k8v-d/overview.htm" target="_blank">http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket754/k8v-d/overview.htm</a>

and K8V SE Deluxe

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket754/k8vse-d/overview.htm" target="_blank">http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket754/k8vse-d/overview.htm</a>

You're right it apparently does exist. But both have the same amount of
PATA + SATA connectors.

The country-specific websites only list the k8v deluxe, looks like the
others are either too new or only intended for asia markets.

Differences I can see:
- the k8v deluxe and k8v se deluxe have a promise 20378 instead of 20376
controller - supports raid 0+1 instead of only 0 or 1 according to the
asus website.
- the k8v deluxe has a WiFi slot, the k8v se deluxe has a "WiFi slot for
optional wireless LAN upgrade" (meaning the card is included with the
k8v deluxe but not the k8v se deluxe), the plain k8v lacks the slot.
- the regular k8v seems to miss some bios features (AI BIOS and ASUS
POST Reporter, whatever these are, or maybe it's just not mentioned)
- both deluxe versions support firewire (one internal + one external
connector), and also feature a 2nd serial (only internal) connector.

So, k8v deluxe and k8v se deluxe are identical except that the wireless
LAN card is not included with the se version, but the plain k8v indeed
lacks some features.

As I understand it, neither of the chips supports RAID functions anyway.
They just connect the drives and the RAID support is done is software.

No, it isn't, but there was a Wi-Fi edition of the K8V Deluxe. At least
my board didn't have one and that is definitely the board I have.

ASUS POST Reporter is a voice message for POST errors. It's certainly a
lot better than just the old beeps.

There is at least one other difference. The K8V Deluxe has a 3Com Gb
LAN chip, but the K8V SE Deluxe sources it from Marvell. The chip is
actually the same. However I have seen a couple of reports of people
having difficulty with the SE board LAN under Linux. Apparently the
problem seems to suggest that there is an error in the firmware.

I'm owning a K8V-D. The manual (and the website) are mentioning a game
and a midi port on the motherboard. Til now I couldn't find either of
them. Are there some revision of the board around with major
differencies?

The wi-fi slot is just an expanson slot designed to work soley with Asus's
wireless network card. It doesnt have anything to do with firewire. Also the
normal delux doesnt always come with the wi-fi card, mine came with the slot
but no card.

Hope that helps clear some things up.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't used any wireless components before so
really wasn't familiar with the term. My education is now further advanced.
