This is a common problem with laptops. Check to see if the NumLock key is on
or off. If it is on, turn it off. I recently had the same problem, trying to
log into WinXP on my laptop. I didn't realize it, but a recent BIOS
configuration change had caused my NumLock key to become active, and when
typing in "chobitsu" for my password, I was actually putting in "ch6b5ts4"
on my Dell laptop. After several bad password attempts, I usually type the
password into the username field, and copy and paste. That was when I
discovered the problem.
Hope this helps.
