Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>keyboard (more info?)

I have a KVM (MPC2060) box for switching a single keyboard, monitor
and mouse between two PC’s, using a button. It also has a software
option to do the same. If I type ScrLk ScrLk Space Enter the keyboard,
monitor and mouse are switched to the other PC. If I do the same
again, I am switched back again.

I would like to produce this key sequnce by pushing one key on the MS
Multimedia Keyboard. I thought of writing a program which could be
assisgned to one of the keys using Intellitype. However I need to
have this key sequence come from the keyboard before it even has the
chance to invoke a program, as the box is connected between the
Keyboard and the computer. I hope my logic is correct here.

Does any one know how I could get a key sequence to start from the
keyboard at the touch of one button?

Cheers
Ian

Yeah, makes sense. IF the scancode combination is interpreted by the KVM
switch itself, rather than any software running on the PC, which then
switches the KVM via some other means. I didn't think of that when you
asked me.

Not with any standard keyboard. It's not impossible to do from a
keyboard-like device (notice my intentional vague-ness here), but whether
there are any keyboards out there that do that, I don't know.

1 key = 1 scancode (or no scancode, or a modifier to a scancode)

there are small devices that sit between the keyboard and the computer
that'll do something to that effect... most, though, are designed as
spy-gear or privacy-intrusion gear.. though, i'm almost certain i've run
across one that'll let you set up a list of passwords and input a long
password with the touch of a button... i wish i could remember where i saw
it though..<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I've been looking into writing a keyboard filter driver and it appears that
it would be possible to do with a driver too.
