Post subject: Matshita UJDA710 drive no longer burns?
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>cd-rom (more info?)

I have a Matshita UJDA710 CD burner in my Toshiba Satellite S5004. It will
read CD's just fine, but will not burn them. I tried using NTI and Nero,
both generate an error when attempting to burn CD's (error log from Nero
posted below).

Is this a driver issue or somethign else? Upon reading the Toshiba web site
it appears that the drivers should be included in WinXP, and since this is a
fairly common burner I would think that Nero would support it.

Did you ever get this fixed? I've had a similar problem on my Toshiba
Satellite S504: The UJDA710 CD stops working partially, then
completely. I've sent the laptop in once to have the drive replaced
(they put in another UJDA710) and now (about a year later) the drive is
not working again. Last time, it wouldn't burn CD-Rs. Now it will
neither read nor burn CD-R's and is beginning to not read regular CDs.
So far it will still play DVDs but even that's getting flaky. I'LL
NEVER BUY ANOTHER TOSHIBA MACHINE AGAIN! I had to fight with the tech
support for over a month (and re-install the operating system) before
they would even consider repairing the drive. They finally condescended
to me sending in the computer, then kept it for a MONTH while they
replaced the drive (and re-formatted the hard drive again, just for
good measure) which is now broken again -- and now out of warranty!

DON'T BUY TOSHIBA!

I am having a very similar problem with my Sony DRU-540A. This is a
fairly new CD/DVD burner. I worked with Sony and seemingly confirmed
that the problem was the result of a firmware update from A to B. A
new drive was sent to me and has the same problem - I'm unable to write
but can read fine. I have been digging and have a suspicision that
that the problem is the result of installing Adobe Photoshop Elements
3.0. It seems to have included a driver from Sonic named PXHELP20.SYS.
This driver appears in my list of drivers under both my CD and DVD
drives. I think it realates to a camera/CD monitoring interface to
capture new images. I'm looking for a means to disable this driver.
Turning off the camera monitoring function in APSE 3.0 didn't do it.
Here is a vary intriguing link that initiated my suspicison:
http://www.anti-spy.info/process/pxhelp20.sys.html.

Hello, just to say that PxHelp20! is not coming from Adobe Photoshop
Elements.

I have this PxHelp20! on my computer but I don't have Photoshop...

I'm using a Dell Computer and Xp was installed when I receive my
computer.

AnyDvd detect this application and say that it's a spyware but Adaware
from Lavasoft doesn't detect this application !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will try with Spybot if it detect PxHelp20!.
