Post subject: Matshita UJDA710 plays but won't burn
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>cd-rom (more info?)

I have a Matshita UJDA710 CD burner in my Toshiba Satellite S5004. It will
read CD's just fine, but will not burn them. I tried using NTI and Nero,
both generate an error when attempting to burn CD's (error log from Nero
posted below).

Is this a driver issue or somethign else? Upon reading the Toshiba web site
it appears that the drivers should be included in WinXP, and since this is a
fairly common burner I would think that Nero would support it.

Same problem in WinXP SP2's internal Nero-based burner - in detail, the
drive spins up then stops and spins up again and again and again and
generally gets nowhere.

Ahead Nero gave me a more or less identical log to what you have.

I'm trying to find new drivers for it, see what happens

I've got the same problem. Good music and great movies, but no burning.
I've spent a lot of time trying to find drivers with no luck. The
Panasonic/Matsushita/Matshita site was no help. I couldn't work through
to drivers. Let's stay in touch and communicate the solution. Thanks.

I have just registered on this site. Realized that I am not the only victim of Matshita UJDA710. After it stopped burning CD's, my warranty had it replaced with another of the same piece. Not able to burn CD's anymore and also able to read some CD's and others seem to be spinning forever
without any result. I am planning to take it to a professional service and will share the info in this forum if I can get it fixed.Meanwhile any help in this regard is very much appreciated.

I have had the same problems as others. My only solution is that I went out and purchased a flash drive... Works fine. If anyone can find a fix I would be very interested..

Thank You,

Thanks God I'm not alone. I have had this problem ever since I got my laptop, which is running XP. I can write to the CD once, then never again. The files stay in "limbo" as "write these files to CD". If anyone resolves this please let me know....thanks

I just wanted to add myself to the list of unhappy people. I have one of these drives with the same problem - can read but not write. I am wondering where everyone got there drive from. i.e. is it a problem with a company or the people manufactuing the drive. I bought my drive from MundoCorp, who supplies products for Gateway Computers, after my original notebook drive went out. This company only gives a 30 day warrenty of which has long expired as I have tried everything to solve the problem. Now they simply won't help. What a scam this is! They also told me the drive does not require any drivers and I have yet to find any that might work! Has anyone solved this problem or is everyone just forking out the money from a new drive??? I would really like to know what can be done because I am at a loss!!!

Hi Guys.

I used to have the same problem.
I solved it downloading the ASPI druver from ADAPTEC website.

check it out at http://www.adaptec.com

The file I downloaded is aspi_v470.exe

I solved several DVD reproduction and CD burning issues with this driver.

Please let me know if it was fine for you.

Saludos de su amigo.

If you have aspi problem, install aspi 4.60 with ForceASPI 1.7 from a
link given here:

From what i can see ... your lens are dirty try getting a lens cleaner ( do get a good one.. it is worth the extra money) I think your drive has problems getting info from the blank disc to prepare for burning.

The burner getss the info from the blank disk such as burning speed.

try that and good luck.......

If you're really good and the drive is not under warranty.... open it up and gently clean the lens with a qtip.. dry not wet.

GOOD LUCK

Guys,

I have Sony 1005 with a drive UJDA710 and I saw this procedure for UJDA720 and aplyed it to my computer. WORKED and the drive is ok now.

I understand that the computer does not recognize some CDs or does not reconize the drive. The issue might be due to corrupted drivers. To resolve this issue the CD drive drivers must be re-installed.

To reinstall the CD drive drivers on the computer, perform the following steps:

1. Access the Startup menu of the computer by pressing F8 during startup.
2. Choose Safe mode from the Startup menu and press Enter.
3. Right-click My Computer icon on the desktop and select Properties.
4. Click the Hard ware Tab, Device Manager, and double-click CDROM.
5. Select the first listed CD drive to highlight it.
6. Click Remove.
7. Remove any additional CD devices in the same manner.
8. Select the first listed DVD-ROM drive to highlight it.
9. Click Remove.
10. Remove any additional CD devices in the same manner.
11. Click OK.
12. Download and install the updated patch for CD drive from the
following URL: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs
13. Restart the computer.

The computer will auto detect the CD devices and install the required
drivers to run the device.

Good Luck
