Post subject: Mixed Card OC Question
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>videocards>ati (more info?)

I have X1950XTX CF Edition with X1900XTX

CCC only shows me one set of clock speeds. When I set the sliders to max
overclock, which is approx 650\1100, I assume those speeds are applied to
the x1950xtx which was designed to run that fast. My question is what is
happening to my X1900XTX? Does it get OC'd an equivalent percentage, or
does it just run at stock speeds? Because what I'd really like to do is OC
the X1900XTX and leave the X1950 at stock.

By the way, Crossfire works well enough, although I'm starting to wish I'd
grabbed an 8800GTX when they were new. I play at 2560x1600 and one thing
I've noticed is I get better performance in all games by disabling Catalyst
AI altogether.

TIA

Unlike SLI, two different cards in Crossfire will by default run
"asymmetrically" at their respective stock speeds. I really have no idea
what happens with Overdrive. You can verify the speed of each card using a
utility like Everest. Set the refresh interval in Everest to something like
5 sec, so the numbers will remain displayed briefly after you exit a game,
before the cards drop back to their 2D clocks.

I think the only sure way to overclock is to use ATiTool, which identifies
each card individually via Device ID in a drop-down menu. You can even apply
a different clock/voltage profile to each card. However, profiles have to be
manually applied to each card every time you start your PC.

If you got the 8800GTX, you will have to deal with the bloated New NVidia
Control Panel and overclock with nTune. The experience isn't that much
better.
