Monitor resolution for legibility on stitched pictures? Is..

I've made some stitched pictures on my Olympus D-550z in Panorama mode using the
Camedia software on the computer. I am a bit unsatisfied with the stitching done
in automatic mode, and the manual mode requires paying for an upgrade of the
software to Pro. The auto-stitching misses portions of the tops and bottoms of
the pictures I took so I have to use a background color to try to cover up the
mistake. Also, the enlongated pictures are over 2000 pixels wide, and can be
over 3000 or many more pixels wide when each picture was taken in 768 (h) x 1024
(w) resolution. Most of these pictures are of cd's with printed material
included (I'm doing an inventory), so reading the photographed material is
required. When the monitor display resolution is less than the size of the
picture, written-photographed material becomes too corrupted to read because of
"dropped pixels". How can I get a 777 (H) x 3555 (W) picture of printed
material to be legible on a 17" monitor? The highest resolution I can go to is
1024 (H) x 1280 (W), which is good for 90 degree-rotated pictures and makes
illegible pictures legible again (photos @1024(H) x 768(W)), and reduces neck
strain from tipping my head at the lower resolution of 768 (H) x 1024 (W).

BTW, I like Irfanview for printing pictures! I make 8 x 6 prints. Is there any
photo paper this size?
I haven't tried printing up panoramic shots yet. Do any of you have success
printing up panoramic shots?

Ah, Irfanview has a horizontal scroll so I can view stitched pictures legibly.
Slideshows may not look so legible though.
