Hi all.
Does anyone have an opinion on the Nikon 5700? I want to buy a digital
camera. Is there a better one in this price range and with comparable
features or should I take the plunge with this one?
Thanks for all opinions.
Phil

It depends on how much you're going to pay for the 5700. The price you'll
pay at Best Buy or CompUSA and many online retailers will be $999. Now, it
can be had for as low as $700 from some online retailers. You'd have to
make sure it's a USA model with the USA 3-year warranty.

But for $999, the Canon Digital Rebel is a better camera. It's a true
digital SLR with a detachable lens. You can fit 50 different Canon lenses
to it. If you insist on buying the Nikon 5700 from a retail shop and pay
the full $999, then you should consider the Canon Digital Rebel since it's
the same price, but is a digital SLR. It's not as compact as the 5700. It
has the same form factor as a regular SLR camera.

This review states that the new digital Rebel uses special back focus lenses
and the rear element is closer to the CCD.

Hello I have had 3 4 nNikon 950, 990, 995....and 5700.
All of them have less noise than the 5700. I had my 5700 stolen 2 weeks ago,
and I am not really sorry to see it leave.

Samples images at this page from a 5700 in folder marked NIKON 5700 test

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://public.fotki.com/justsayyes/" target="_blank">http://public.fotki.com/justsayyes/</a>

Now looking to move on to a SLR ?
This is just my opinion, Kenne DeleteThis @telus.net

The review states:

"Lens compat. EF, EF-S"

(that's from the chart at the bottom)

In English: the camera uses both the special back focus lenses, and also
the regular lenses.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
