Hi
Does anyone have an opinion on which of these two animals is the better
species to purchase?
I have been reading extensively on both cameras and am having trouble
deciding which to buy.
By-and-large the camera would be used for family outdoor/indoor purposes
with the probability that I will try to get a little creative re portrait
work (I have three children) and scenery capture.
I have heard that the Fuji has a slow shutter lag time, at best of 0.3sec.
Does anyone know what the Olympus shutter lag is? What is a decent shutter
lag for a digital camera?
Both cameras are pretty well matched in most areas, as far as I can see.
The abilties of video footage doesn't interest me in the slightest. I am
more concerned about quality of product (photo), ease of use (for a gumby
like me), level of creativity (to a certain extent, <SLR) and general life
of the camera.
At present I am leaning toward the C-740 (to use as a point'n'shoot) with
the view to purchasing a dedicated SLR when the prices become a little more
realistic.
Any comments appreciated.
Thanks

I've been losing much sleep comparing the Olympus C750 (newer model with
4Ms) with the Fuji S5000 as I am considering a purchase too. I have decided
that the C750 with the extra meg of "real" pixels, and a flash hot shoe
ought to make a better buy, I believe it has slightly better picture quality
too.

Yes, I too have been looking at these two. The 10x zoom is appealing, but no
optical viewfinder makes night shots difficult and always using lcd eats
batteries. The C750 is, as said, 4 megapix. Also, I've found that the
Olympus has a slightly faster refresh of lcd screen, not so jerky as the
Fuji series. I believe pic is slighlty better too.
As far as regular SLR's go. Heck, they are now cheaper than the digital
cams. A reasonable Pentax, Canon, Minolta or Nikon with a 100mm or so tele
is great for portriat work. Not too expensive either. Except maybe the
Pentax range.

I use the LCD (both viewfinder and EVF) on my S5000, with power saving
turned off and it sure dosen't eat any of my batteries. I use 4 AA
Nickel Metal Hydride. As for pix quality, I can tell you that if you
pop for a 256 meg xD card, and use raw mode, the picture quality
is fantastic.
