Hi all,

I have a Asus P4C800 Deluxe-E with a P4 2.6c overclocked to 3.2GHz with
temperatures of 33c idle and about 45-48c on full load. Also PC3200 Corsair
RAM.

The PC is very stable in general and also when running PCMark04 and
3DMark2001, however when I run Prime95 it comes up with a error after
running it for a couple of minutes saying something like result 0.5 but 0.4
expected. Does this mean my computer is doing wrong calculations or
something cos it runs fine in all the games I have tried.

Can anyone help me please.

Thanks.

It probably means you're getting an occasional memory error and since Prime
95 is all math, and only math, any 'blip' is an easily detectable bad
answer. A 'blip' a game, however, as long as it doesn't happen to fall in
an important code segment (the 'odds' of it causing a 'crash'), isn't going
to be fatal and probably goes unnoticed, hidden by all the display complexity.

Prime95 will also show the 'blip' quicker and more often because it's
concentrated on doing that calculation in and out of memory as fast as it
can (heavy load) and isn't regularly 'diverted' to 'other things' like a
game is.

Also note that code goes through the error correcting processor cache
whereas direct reads and writes to memory (as Prime95 might do) may not and
so show as an error when the other would be 'fixed' (albeit slowing the
processor down with a cache reload).<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

It means that you are pushing the memory too hard. For the speed you
are getting you are either at a 5:4 ratio or at 1:1 ratio (if you got
good ram sticks (PC3200)),

For prime 95 start lowering your bus speed 1 MHZ at a time until prime
95 runs stable.

Prime would always give me errors at FSB 239x4 or above but when the
bus speed was set to 238 no more errors. I am running corsair PC3700
in dual channel with a P4 2.8C on an asus p4p800dlx. Ratio is 1:1
speed is 3.33.

I could push it further but I am happy with the speed / temperature
ratio. Idle 27C (CPU) full load 45-48C.

Prime 95 is a good prog.
