Only real difference is the t-bred is made on a smaller die so it uses
less power and runs cooler at same MHz as the Palomino.
I'd get the t-bred since they are all unlocked and do the wire in the
socket trick to get it up to faster speeds. ;p

Your information is not correct. The fastest cpu you can put in it is a
Barton core. I'd suggest the 2500+ and then clock it at 12.5x166MHz.
Also any Tbred B core will work fine in it. Many have used the 2400+ in
it. See link below. You might want first hand experiences, Go to
alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.abit NG, or google for fastest kg7.

I put the Thoroughbred 2200+ in the same board with the latest bios and it
works fine.

If I use a Barton 2500+, will it effect the stability of my system? =
Also, will it put any more stress on my memory or PCI cards? And will I =
need to change the CPU voltage?
Sorry for all the questions.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Palomino 2100+ vs. Thoroughbred 2000+ |

Assuming you have a sufficient power supply, and there's nothing wrong
with your system now, no.

If you don't change bus speeds it won't.

I don't know what voltage you are using now. The default voltage for the
Barton is 1.65v.

Hello, you seem to be very knowledgable about this specific topic. It has been some time since I have kept up on hardware specs in general, since the last processor I bought was a 1GHz Thunderbird (which I am still running right now). I was just wondering if you could tell me what would be a good buy at this point in time, for an upgrade from this processor to put in my KG7-RAID, and what modifications, if any, I would need to make to the board and the processor to get them to work correctly, as I have no idea how one could run a 24x multiplier when the highest rating the BIOS allows is "13 and above." Sorry for being a newb, but I would just like a little peace of mind in knowing exactly what I need to do and if it will work before spending the money to upgrade, as I don't have much for making mistakes. Thank you for your time if you reply to this =)
EDIT: Moved this issue to the home built forum, where it might be more appropriate >> Stay informed about: Palomino 2100+ vs. Thoroughbred 2000+ |
