Hiya

Has anyone here tried to run a 2.6 kernel with the Parhelia? I've been
told it's buggy at best, with patches to the drivers being made by people
in the community instead of Matrox (!). I'm currently running a dual
desktop on a 2.4 kernel.

Sorry i don't have the info you are looking for, but I'd LOVE to know what
your "xf86config" looks like!

I've had mixed results at best trying to get my Parhelia to work with either
FreeBSD, Debian, or Gentoo.

Thanks!!!

-Parhelia 128
-Dual Samsung 191T LCD's (1280x1024 each)

-Although I love the Parhelia in windows, I was thinking it might be my last
Matrox product due to virtually nonexistant Linux/BSD drivers/support.

I made my XF86Config based on the XF86Config.merged sample config file
that's distributed with the driver source. Let me know if you'd like to
have a look at it, and I'll mail it to you.

I'd appreciate a copy of your config. You can even just paste the text
here, or email be at the link below.

I was unable to interpret the RedHat source and drivers and keep the video
stable at the proper resolutions, so it's very nice of you to send the
efforts of your trials and tribulations.

With the hopes of the upcoming config, I just opened some very old email
from Matrox tech support. Tor, this link
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://forum.matrox.com/mga/index.php?c=4" target="_blank">http://forum.matrox.com/mga/index.php?c=4</a> may be of interest to you, and
there are some posts regarding the 2.6 kernel.

It appears that Matrox's Linux support have been vastly improved the past
year from what I'm rediscovering...perhaps they've made a great business
move. I really like Matrox hardware, but with my developing interests in
open source, I'd hate to feel pressed into the nVidia or ATi products again.

Still, even if a driver is "generic", why name it specifically for
RedHat????

And BTW Matrox (regarding the email disclaimer from over a year ago), I
don't think anyone choosing Linux is interested in gaming. I'm sure I can
speak for the community it's just about getting 'real work' done
efficiently. High-quality hardware meets high-quality OS!

Have a look at the message "PreZ" posted half-way down on this page:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://forum.matrox.com/mga/viewtopic.php?t=7215" target="_blank">http://forum.matrox.com/mga/viewtopic.php?t=7215</a>

He claims to have a working patch available for 2.6!

<apparently a bright fellow, and a Gentoo developer to boot>

Yeah, and from the looks of it, seems the best thing to do is steer clear
of the Parhelia+2.6 combo as of yet, until the Matrox developers get the
time to do their thing, or the community patches appear more stable.

Thanks for the info! Good luck with your setup. I mailed you my XF86Config
- let me know if there's something else I can do to help.
