This Pentium 4 is on a Asus P4P800-E-Deluxe MB with a Thermaltake 80mm ball
cpu cooler. The cpu temp at idle is 66 C/ and 81C when a video is playing. I
replaced the old thermo grease with Arctic Silver 5. The flat thermo sensor
that stuck on the coper heatsink broke of so I was wondering how Asus PC
probe is able to read the cpu temp. Is there a thermo sensor in the CPU?
Motherboard temp is at 40C and doesn't change much.

I have been getting some crashes to blue screen when running several
programs at once. CPU fan is at 6308.
I also have removed the sides of the tower to allow more cooling. At what
temp does the CPU throttle back?

I am running the se version of the board and my temps are cpu 39c MB 32c.
also running a 3.2 prescott. I think you need more ventilation for the case.
I do clean the heatsink and apply new grease about every 3 months.
Also running a 7600gt which runs cooler that my old 6600gt.

Does your CPU heatsink have a flat type thermal sensor on it? On mine I had
to glue the thermal sensor to the bottom side of the copper heatsink next to
where the cpu contacts the heatsink but not on top of the CPU. A temp of 39c
is a nice low temp. What is your high temp average of the cpu at full load?
Can you control the CPU fan speed and what is the speed at? I'm getting a
new fan and heatsink next week and will see if that helps.

I have the P5P800 and the 3.4 GHz processor and ran into the overheating
problem you are seeing with my old case. The distance between the CPU
and the power supply was less than an inch and I could feel the heat
coming out of the side of the case where the power supply was. My new
case has a couple of inches of clearance and much better air flow.
After replacing the case my temperatures dropped over 15 degrees.
