I have burnt two half-hour-long MPEG files onto a CD-R, and then played
them back on Windows Media Player, directly off of the CD. They played
fine, but when I removed the disk, I found a series of cracks in the
disk, extending radially from the center. I'm not positve that they
weren't there before, but I sure didn't notice them.

What I'm wondering is if these cracks could be "stress fractures"
resulting from playing the MPEGs directly off the CD-R? Is this not to
be recommended? Is it better to copy them to hard disk to play them?
Are DVD-Rs similarly fragile?

Thanks ahead...

Dave

no, not stress fractures from the laser.

play the files from CD or DVD or hard drive - any way you want to.
