I have a 9npa + sli board that will not boot. It displays FF on the hex
display. All the diagnostic leds are lit (CPU, Chip set and Dram). All
that is currently plugged into the board are CPU and Power.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

I'm not an expert, but do have several EPOX boards, and can't help but
question, what you are thinking? If all you have is CPU and power, you
still need much much more. Like a Hard Drive? Like a monitor connected to
the video? Like a CD ROM to install drivers?

With the LED reading "FF" the motherboard has passed all of the post boot
and is ready....

First, try removing power from the unit by cycling the power switch on the
PSU.

Still no go? With the PSU disconnected from the motherboard, clear the cmos
by
setting the jumper and removing the battery for 10 minutes. Then hook up the
psu
and test.

Try the above with only cpu with hsf, one stick of ram and video card hooked
up.

Still no go? Take the board out of the case. With only cpu with hsf, one
stick of ram
and video card hooked up, clear the cmos by setting the jumper and removing
the battery for 10 minutes. Then hook up the psu and start by momentarily
shorting the power switch pins on the motherboard.

Zyp - I'm questioning my thinking too.

My take is that FF means it did not pass any of the boot post.
Post should pick up factors like no kbd, monitor etc.
I started with everything connected and received the same FF post. I was
hoping that something connected was keeping it from booting.

Doing this now. I tried it before but only for a few seconds w/o removing
the battery

I will try this too if the first items don't resolve the problem.

What is a hsf ?

OK, since no one's bitten on this, hsf = heatsink fan, or the cpu cooling
unit

Paul,

You need to have at least one stick of ram installed and also the video card
or it won't post. The key to the cmos reset is that you set the jumper,
remove the battery and most important, disconnect the PSU.
