I'm having a problem when using the latest drivers (7.8 and 7.9), it keeps
reducing the color depth to 16bit on startup and i want it to stay at 32bit
so i have to change it every time, is there a registry fix to force it to
keep it at 32bit?

Sapphire HD2600XT DDR3 model. Did the same thing with a X1900GT card.

Never seen this problem with any of my Radeon cards at any driver version.
(Never seen it on any Geforce, for that matter.)

1. From where are you doing the resolution and color depth adjustments, CCC
or Display Properties? Make sure they match.

2. If the monitor mfr provides a driver or INF file, install it.

3. Any startup programs that may cause your monitor to change state (custom
color profiles, 3D screensavers, monitor control utilities, Powerstrip,
etc.) should be disabled.

4. BTW, if your monitor is an LCD, make sure it has an 8-bit panel.
Otherwise all this effort will be in vain. Smile

Do you have ATI Tray Tools installed?
http://www.guru3d.com/

I use it to manage all my ATI card settings...

Doesn't matter if you are using a DVI or VGA connection.

http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=2289&p=3
Of course many 6-bit panels nowadays can display a convincing range of
colors through dithering. So it's common to see 6-bit panels advertised as
capable of 16.7 million colors.

If you haven't done so already, pull up some test image and see if you can
spot any difference (banding, etc.) between 16-bit and 32-bit modes with
your monitor.
