Archived from groups: alt>comp>hardware>amd>thunderbird (more info?)

First, I am new to AMD products.

I have a 244759-002 Compaq motherboard. No processor.

I check with the tech at hp/compaq and they said only a Athlon XP
1700+ (Socket 462 aka Socket A) cpu would work.

I would like to know is this correct? And if not I would like to know
what processors world work and what speed without overclocking. Also,
could a Athlon Sempron 2400+ work?
