Proper connection for my new LCD screen?

Just bought a new 19" ACER LCD last night. The LCD has a DVi
connection and so does my ATI video card. So I decided to use the
digital connectors instead of the analog.

Without reading the instructions first, I went ahead and connected Dvi
to DVi only (no analog cable). Turned the computer and the LCD monitor
on and bingo, everything looks great!

Later I looked quickly at the user's manual and noticed that the
suggested setup appears to be as followed:

1) connect power cable (duh!)
2) connect VGA cable from LCD screen to video card
3) (optional) connect DVi cable from LCD screen to video card.

This set of instructions seems to indicate that I should have plugged
the VGA (analog) cable as well. Is it safe for me to simply connect
the DVi cable or should I connect the VGA cable as well? Frankly I do
not see why I should connect the VGA cable if I intend to use the
digital signal only... At the same time, I also want to make sure, I
won't fry something by not following the exact suggested procedure...

That's fine. If it works that way, you have absolutely no need
to worry about the analog (VGA) connection.

DVI-I, by the way, has both analog and digital interfaces on
a single connector. Obviously, your PC/video card and your
monitor have figured out how to use at least one of those!
