Post subject: READ ONLY problem (please help)
Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>networking (more info?)

This person is trying to launch a software program. He cannot go
beyond the stage a after it locates an affirms an update is not
needed. He cannot log on.
Spoke to the customer and the problem is with his OS (Windows XP). His
OS keeps on putting a read only attribute to our installation folder.
Due to this he is unable to execute the java runtime. There is NO
problem with the update. He gets updated to the latest version. The
only problem is that whenever he installs the software the
installation directory is by default taken as READ ONLY. We even made
him create a seperate directory and install the s/w, but the directory
that he creates is READ ONLY. In summary, whatever this user creates
in his computer is by default READ ONLY.

He is an administrator of his system. But this does not prevent him to
get the installation folder to be Read Only. If his CLIENT
installation folder is read only we cannot run the java client. We
tried all possible means of unchecking the Read only tab, but it
appears again immediately. We are looking into Windows to see why does
this happen.

Any solution/fix to this will be greatly appreciated.
