The Realtek LAN chip on this board places a fixed IP in my TCP/IP
when used with a cable modem. Is there a way around this and is it a
common problem or defective 8100b chip?

When I put in a NIC card in a PCI slot, the card works fine, but I
need the slot.

Any thoughts will be appreciated

Hi;
What is the IP address it shows? Any error messages etc? What O.S.?
Router or other connections? You need to provide more information when you
ask a question like this.

Thanks for the reply. It turned out to be a defective Realtek chip.
The motherboard was replaced by the dealer and the new one works
fine.
