I need the number of the cheapest currently available model with an optical
S/PDIF socket (i.e. not a header or a hole in the back).

I have checked on DABS.COM but the cheaper models appear to have given up
on this connector.

All help gratefully received.

Does it have to be a Shuttle? I had a Shuttle which failed after 15
months. Mobo failed.

Now use the Aopen X-Cube EZ661-T (Ebuyer Quick Ref: 94326) which has
S/PDIF optical in and out.

HTH.

Wiggy.

Exactly the same question I asked myself this morning after readin a review
of an Aopen something or other with S/PDIF in and out. It's quite a bit
dearer than the cheapo Shuttle it's replacing but the insurance company may
let me pay the extra. The one I read about has an external power supply and
takes an Intel "mobile" processor which probably makes it much quieter.

Thank you for the suggestion - are you happy with your new toy?

Norman

Yes I'm happy with it. It just sits here running FreeBSD which runs
all my file sharing and Internet connectivity. Seems to do the job
fine.

Only thing I can't comment on is use for graphics or games as that
machine isn't used for this.

It's quiet and runs 24 hours a day.

Cheers,

Wiggy.
