Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>supermicro (more info?)

Hi,

I have a dual Xeon II system that uses the supermicro S2DGU mother
board.

I have had to upgrade to windows XP,and now my onboard usb no longer
works.

I have updated the bios to the latest an patched XP but with no
result.

It detects the device and seems to insall it but then when I look in
the device manager I get it showing an error with the intel 82371AB/EB
PCI to USB Universal Host Controller.

the error says "this device cannot start. (Code 10)"

Thanks in advance for any help.

Richard

Have you installed chipset drivers? That may fix the problem. Since
it's the PCI to USB controller, not the USB ports that are giving you a
problem, I suspect that you haven't installed chipset drivers. You
might find them on <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://ftp.supermicro.com" target="_blank">ftp.supermicro.com</a>

I don't know this board, but on other dual Supermicro boards similar errors
occur if you install WinXP with your computer as anything other than an
"ACPI Multiprocessor PC". If you don't have it installed as this, you can
run out of IRQs or some devices don't like sharing them and you get a
similar problem.

As an older board, XP may not detect the ACPI and you may have to force the
installation by pressing F5 (or was it F7?) as soon as your PC comes up with
the blue screen "Windows is detecting your configuration".

You can see if your installation is the correct type by expanding "computer"
in Device Manager".

You can also just add the MultiProcessor ACPI after the fact, just go
into device manager, and update the Uniprocessor ACPI...
