I want to install 4 SATA drives on my GA-7NNXP. It comes with a
daughterboard/controller. The SATA manual or the MB manual say nothing
about it. When I install the card (with the power connector), any drive
attached to it does not show anywhere in BIOS. How do I enable this
controller? Any ideas?

Thx,

Art

That additional card only allows you to use the "internal" SATA ports as
"external" ports. That is, it is only an extention cord of sorts - it does
nothing by itself.

That's what I suspected. Thanks for the confirmation Eric. I wonder if I
can get another SATA controller card to work and play well with the
on-board?

Easily.

I have a Highpoint 1540 in my GA-K8VNXP and it behaves well with the onboard
VIA SATA raid as well as the ITE controller.

Although you have the nVidia chipset, it should still be possible - just
check to see if you can control the boot priority of SCSI devices in the
motherboard's BIOS. Without this, you may be forced on how to arrange your
drives.

(Some add-in cards may auto-boot without an option to shut it off which may
force you to have RAID arrays only on the add-in card - A situation I had
when I used an A7N8X)

Thanks Eric. I ordered a SIIG 4 channel. We'll see what happens.
