Post subject: SATA and IDE Drives
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>gigabyte (more info?)

Hi:

I have a final decision to install just one (1) WD 160GB SATA drive
to the ICH5R connector and a second WD 80 GB PATA drive to one of the
IDE connector. Reading a few post on this NG I noticed that some
people recommended to install the PATA drive to the IDE3 or IDE4
GigaRaid connectors instead of the standard IDE1 or IDE2 connectors.
Can anybody explain why? Also, some people mentioned that if I used
only one SATA drive on ICH5R, I don't need to install any drivers
using F6 during XP installation due to the fact that the drivers are
on the XP CD. If somebody want to elaborate on this, please do so
because I am a little bit confused. I will have the following items on
my system and wanted to know the best way to installed them:

1. One WD 160GB SATA drive to be used as Master Boot Disk.

2. One WD 80GB PATA drive to be used as Slave on IDE1? IDE2?, or as
Master on IDE3?, IDE4?

3. One Sony DVD R/W drive (right now it is connected as Master on
IDE1).

4. One Sony DVD ROM drive (right now it is connected as Master on
IDE2).

Everything will be started from scratch using a clean install of
Windows XP with SP2. Thanks for any info on this matter.

P.D. This is what you can called an edit to a previous post where I
was thinking of installing the same items except for a second SATA
drive running at RAID 0 on ICH5R. Please, forgive me if I made a
mistake by not using the previous thread.
