Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>soyo (more info?)

I'm having trouble with standby after flashing to the latest bios.
I've been using the SY-P4I865PE Plus Dragon 2 with Celeron D 325,
Windows XP SP2, and bios version 2BA1 (aka P4IP2_2BA1 or 865l2ba1.exe
). When using this older bios, my computer would enter / exit standby
without any problems. Then I flashed the bios to the newer 2CA1 (aka
865l2ca1.exe ). After flashing to the newer bios, my computer would no
longer enter standby. The computer would attempt to enter standby,
then return the following error message:

***************************
System Standby Failed

The device driver for the 'Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System' device is
preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all
applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to
update this driver.
***************************

I also flashed to the latest bios, 2CA2 (aka 865l2ca2.exe ). Standby
still would not work, and the same error message would pop up. I tried
changing all the bios settings related to power management - acpi
suspend type, S1(pos), S3(str), etc, etc, etc, etc...... After about a
million reboots later, the error message continued.

After having these problems, I flashed the bios back to the older 2BA1,
and standby worked correctly (no error message). So, I know that my OS
and hardware are all acpi compliant. The only variable that has
changed in the system is the bios. Obviously, the award phoenix bios
supplied by Soyo is buggy.

I would like to upgrade my processor to a prescott P4 with
hyperthreading, but I don't know if the older bios I'm using will
support newer processors. I would also like to upgrade to a 300gb or
larger hard drive. I attempted to contact Soyo tech support, and they
were completely useless.

Sorry for the long post, but here are my questions:
1. Will the older 2BA1 bios support the latest socket 478 3+ ghz P4's?
2. Will the older 2BA1 bios support large hard drives (300gb or
larger)?
3. Is there any way to use the newer bios, and still have standby
functional?
