My mom has used an ancient 35mm Minolta camera since before I was
born. I took a Kodak DC215Z with me on our last vacation and now she
is smitten with the idea of owning a digital camera. I think my
brother and I will split the cost 50/50 and get her one for a birthday
present or perhaps Christmas.
Here is what I'm looking for:
1. 4 megapixels or better
2. Uses non-proprietary batteries (I use NiMH in mine).
3. Uses Compact Flash cards
4. Has ordinary camera flash attachment (i.e. not built in)
5. Has a split focus viewfinder
I've looked for these features in a digital camera and the standard
flash mounting point seems to be the hardest feature to find in a
sub-600 USD model.
What would you suggest? It also has to have easily learnable menu
controls. She's not much for computers and I don't think she would
cotton to the idea of a terribly complicated menu system.
