Hello

Is Socket 939 which is be released in May (Is this correct or is it April),
worth the wait for those who are ready to build a AMD64 system?

Thanks in advance.

And when it comes out, PCI Express won't be far behind, so you might as
well wait for it too, then something else new, so you might as well wait
for it too, then............

I dont know about that..
I think the leap to pci express might be worth the wait for someone who's
going to go 100% new kit. the only problems with pci express is that we'll
see the new version of pci express hit the market in abut 2 years. But
looking at the bandwith that pci express gives I would DEF wait for it if
going 100% new. Not to mention a small wait would let the hardware and
software fully catch up with the x86-64 based processors.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Does anyone remember if ISA video cards and other ISA hardware had any
huge price drops once PCI started showing up on mother boards for the
DIY builder?

Sure would like to see these 9800 XT/Pro's drop another $100 soon,
wallet is gett'n kinda thin! ;p

The first socket 939 parts will only have 1/2M of cache vs 1M for the 940
pin Opterons. 1M 939 parts won't be available until Q4 when AMD switches
to 90nm. I think the best choice right now is to go with an Opteron 144 or
146, the 148 and FX51 parts are more than twice as expensive for barely
more performance.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
