My daughter's Sony cybershot dsc-w70 shows the word "Access" on the
screen, when turned on. It then tells me to turn off the power and turn
it on again. I did and it repeated it's bad behavior.

I tried taking out the battery and returning it after a few minutes but
to no avail. I tried taking out the memory stick thingy, to no avail.

Does anyone know what this cryptic message means?

If so, please help! Thanks so much, Ricki.

Sounds like a problem with the memory. Perhaps, you have a memory stick
which is corrupted. Try turning the camera on without the memory stick in
the camera. If that works try another memory stick.

Likewise, if you are having this problem when there is no memory stick in
the camera, try inserting one before you turn on the camera.
