Mobo: P4X400 Dragon Lite
Sound card: SB Live! 5.1 Gamer
Having trouble getting these two buggers to work together nicely. Sound in
Linux and Windows is just fine, but when it comes to SB16 emulation in DOS,
nothing works. I've followed the directions that Creative gives in this
FAQ --->

No luck. After reserving IRQ 5 for ISA I get SBEINIT.COM to load the
emulator okay, but SBEGO.EXE gives me an error saying "Is SB emulation
enabled?" I used to have a Compaq Presario, and for all the crap that mobo
gave me, at least I got DOS sound to work with my SB Live card... so I know
the card itself is good. I was unable to try solutions 1 and 7 on that
article, because whenever I go to update my drivers, the Windows installer
tells me it can't find an SB Live card on my system (even though the card is
recognized in Device Manager and pumps out sound beautifully). As far as
solution 7, I have been unable to find an NMI setting in my BIOS. I'm
thinking this might be the problem because I had similar problems before
with my onboard sound (no DOS support). Currently the onboard sound is
disabled, so there is no conflict. Then there is solution 8, which suggests
reducing the FSB speed to 100 MHz or less. This, to me, is a ridiculous
solution, and not worth it.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Keith
