Hi everyone,

I own a Toshiba PDR M700 clone; nice camera for home use. One problem
though: it supports only (SD-)memory cards up to 512 MB.
Does anyone know a way how this can be upgraded so it can handle 2GB
SD-cards? I know there is no 'official' firmware that handle such an
upgrade, so other ways are necessary.

Thanks for your reaction.

Filip

many cameras will accept the cards at 1 or 2 gigs. Find a friend,
borrow a card, try it and see.

Unfortunately I already bought a 2G card. When it didn't work, I took the
manual and read that only cards up to 512 M were accepted. That is what
they call 'learning the hard way'.

BEst regards

did you try using the camera to format the card?

No, I did not; I didn't even knew this was possible. If I do so (suppose
I'm capable to do so), don't I reduce the memory card to (in this case)
512k?

Thanks to give some more background information.

The act of formatting does reduce the available total bytes of the card, But
so does formatting your hard drive.

You can not use a memory card or hard drive until it is formatted for the
system you are going to use that memory on.

As to formatting in the camera, read your manual. All cameras can format the
memory card for its own use.

Your camera manual can be downloaded here.
http://www.toshiba.com/taisisd/isd_svc/svcdsc/dscpdf.shtml

It is the first camera in the list.

Formatting the SD card instruction are on page 62 (84 of 120) of the Pdf
file or Page 84 in the printed manual.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work: as soon as I enter the card, the message
"THIS CARD CAN NOT BE USED" appears: I don't even get the chance to push the
erase button. I really think some kind us software upgrade is necessary,
but that shall not be an official one I'm afraid.

Thanks anyway for your effort.

That would indicate either a bad card or a card that is to large.
