How do USB card readers show up on the system? Do they need software or do
they just show up as a drive for you to drag and drop jpgs? I am looking
for a simple way to use a modern digital camera with a USB enabled Windows
95 machine.

Win95 OSR2 does technically support USB, but it is well-known to have
problems, so you are likely to spend a lot of time trying to get your card
reader to work. There is no guarantee of success with this route.

Win98SE is probably the earliest windows version with solid USB support, so
I would recommend upgrading to that version if at all possible.

Second choice would be to use a parallel card reader.

A PCMCIA adapter is also a very attractive choice for a Win95 notebook, and
may work quite easily if you use a CompactFlash type card. For a desktop
system there are also PCI and even ISA adapters for PCMCIA cards that might
do the job. The great advantage of these solutions is speed, and probably
stability with Win95 since CompactFlash cards are really miniature IDE
drives.

Yep they show up as a drive for you to drag and drop files on to .Multiple
readers show up as multiple drives (well the one I have, does anyway). As to
Windows 95 - the other poster has mentioned that in detail.
