But does anyone know how to
fine tweak this board or, how to interpret it's @;{*§!*!* BIOS settings
options, especially "sustain 3T " and PCI #2 master read/write wait state"
and simmilar, they're so lame. And is there a cure for it's low memmory
bandwidth.

& by D way, how to spell freelee, as it is of 'free to do something'.

Thanks in advance 4 this last one.

I see we're all here old timers. Shure did go trough a lot with my VA. '
have on it promise ultra ata 100, creative live!, yamaha opl sax (isa), 256
MB, k6 500 II (previous to it's career was p I 233 mmx), 9800 SE 128 MB, ATX
PSU, it's not o/c-ed, since it makes an electronic component near the CPU to
(!CHECK THIS!) solder off, and anyway it's PCI/AGP devices aren't stable at
 >100 MHz FSB, but that's not completly true (lucky for thoes who gets it
that way), and there's more and not apropriate any more. We all should know
that it is beter to have higher FSB than CPU speed, when you can not rise
CPU any more. But even today PCI against FSB multiplers are so lousy. BLA
BLA BLA. OK! Sorry fo this. My BIOS is from 2000, but the bord's got issues,
I'll tell you. From mine experience, don't recomend any (except some that
worked with others, depending on IDE & ATAPI device instaled) via 4in1 *hit,<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Hello, Edi.

A Radeon 9800SE works on a VA-503+? Wow, that's good to know. I guess it
must be a universal graphics card that still works on old AGP 1x/2x slots.

BIOS tweaks for the VA-503+ (Chipset Features Setup):
See <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.rojakpot.com/bog.aspx" target="_blank">http://www.rojakpot.com/bog.aspx</a> for explanations of what these things
mean!
-------------------------------------------------------------
Video BIOS cacheable: disabled
System BIOS cacheable: disabled
Memory Hole...: disabled
DRAM Page Mode: enabled
Sustained 3T Write: disabled (enabled for slower but more stable)
Write Cache Pipeline: enabled
DRAM Read Pipeline: enabled
Read Around Write: enabled
Memory ECC Check: only if you have ECC RAM
Bank 0/1/2/3/4/5 Timing: turbo
SDRAM Cycle Length: depends on your RAM CAS rating... "3" if you do not know
SDRAM Bank Interleave: Try 4-way. If that does not work, then 2-way.
SDRAM MD-to-HD Pop + 1T: disabled
SDRAM Sustain 4T Cycle: disabled
Aperature Size: 64MB
AGP-2X Mode Support: enabled
Spread Spectrum Modulated: disabled
-------------------------------------------------------------

Low memory bandwidth? Well, you are pretty much stuck with it. If you are
brave, you can try overclocking the FSB while keeping the CPU speed about the
same. For example, if you have a K6-2 450 running at (4.5 x 100), try running
it at (4 x 112). Of course, your memory and components will have to be able
to handle this, as well, but it is a way to "cheat".

"Freely". In English, the "-ly" suffix is used to change adjectives to
adverbs.

free --> freely

happy --> happily
The children are happy. They play their games happily.

quick --> quickly
The man is fast; he is quick. The man runs quickly down the street.

Search google groups for "sustained 3t writes" and you will find some
posts. It's the "write through/write back" cache setting.
Sustained 3T Writes Enabled = Write Through Mode; Disabled=Write Back

=======================================================
"Sustained 3T Write -some say that it is relative to L2 cache and instaled
RAM."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a good link for write-through/write-back:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.pcguide.com/ref/mbsys/cache/charWrite-c.html" target="_blank">http://www.pcguide.com/ref/mbsys/cache/charWrite-c.html</a>

Suppose the system writes information to a location that is already in the
cache.

Write-back will write the new information only to the cache... the
information will only be written "back" to the system memory when that
cache location is used for something else.

Write-through will write the new information to the cache and "through" to
the memory at the same time. This is usually slower, but the cache and
memory are always in sync, so it is more stable.
=======================================================

"Write Cache Pipeline: enabled - when enabled, it creates lags in some
sys configs.. Couldn't resolve wether is OS or MBo issue."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is probably an issue with other components in the system (graphics
cards, etc.) and their drivers. Make sure your drivers are up to date,
then use whichever setting works best for you.
