Since I couldn't get ASUS to bother replying, I hope someone here
knows.

I'm using WakeOnLAN on a CUSI-FX with BIOS 1009 (I wish ASUS would
bother making the last BIOS version, 1018, not beta...)

After configuring the BIOS and Windows (allowing the NIC to wake it up)
I can power up the computer remotely. But alas, if the computer loses
power temporarily (by power outage, or turning off the PSU completely
then back on), WOL doesn't work anymore.

For some reason I suspect it has something to do with some Windows-BIOS
interaction, since it wouldn't work at all if I didn't first allow the
NIC, in Windows, to wake up the computer. That is, that the motherboard
needs more than just the BIOS tweak, but also some fiddling that the OS
does, and a complete power off undoes that. Anyway, just an idea...

So how could I get it to always work?

Have you experimented with the "AC PWR Loss Restart" setting in the BIOS ?
Maybe you can arrange something via that setting.

That's actually more luck than I've ever had - the only systems
I can get to power up with WOL are ones with linksys NICs. I've
tried several motherboards that claim WOL support in the onboard
NIC and several other brands of NICs and only the linksys cards
have ever worked.

Unfortunately, even with the linksys cards, I see the same thing
after a power failure - I have to manually power on once before
WOL will work. I think it has something to do with the standby
power requirements for WOL and standby power going away after a
power failure (just my theory - no actual evidence Smile.

I'll try. This setting is indeed disabled because I don't want it to
restart automatically, I hope these things aren't linked together.

I don't think so that's it. I think standby power is always there if
it's not completely off, and used for things like the ATX power on,
among other things.

Did you try contacting Linksys? Since they are networking oriented,
perhaps they'd have something useful to contribute. Smile

I tried different settings for "AC power loss restart".

"Disabled"/"Previous State" both have the aforementioned issue.

"Enable" goes to the other extreme; the computer powers up on every
stray network packet (or perhaps, broadcasts).

Any other ideas?
