Post subject: Western Digital USB hard drive problems

I cannot for the life of me get these external usb hard drives to work. I am
at my wit's end of a google search.
I have an enclosure and a external usb hard drive. (WD)
Neither work. When I try to add hardware, it say's
"the device would not start"

Here are my spex:

MSI 845 Ultra MB
1 gig kingston pc-2700
Pentium 4 2.0 gig
Ibm 45 gig main drive
Maxtor 80 secondary
TDK DVD+r
TDK cd-rw

ANY help would be greatly rewarded with MANY thank yous.....

Are u running Windows XP Pro? Some systems (like mine using Asus A7N8X
mobo) will not enable USB 2.0 without installing Win SP1 or SP2. Does
Device Mgr. show all USB devices to be ok? HTH, sdlomi<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Did you set the jumpers on the drive to "Single". WD drives won't work as a
"Master or Slave".

Hi,

  That's funny, I have a 160GB WD hard drive in an external enclosure and
I set the jumpers to Master. It works just fine. As for GL, I'm not sure
what the problem is but when you get it working you'll need to format
the drive in the enclosure to use it without problems.
