My Western Digital 250G HD was bought last summer. It has some bad
sectors now. And XP often automatically scans the drive at start-up.
One some directories got lost when the PC is running. Another time a
directory became inaccessible. The drive has 3 years warranty, but
how bad does a drive need to be to get exchanged or fixed by WD?

Run their diagnostics utility then request an RMA. That is
bad enough.

Hello kony, You might also want to replace the cable to the drive. Might
be a bad or loose cable...! But the drive diagnostics will let you know
about the drive. If the drive checks out O.K., then try a new cable.
