I'm stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't seem to keep any WiFi Wireless Access Point working, no matter
what I change. Two weeks ago, I was running a Netgear WAP. Its
connection was through an Efficient Network Speedstream router, which
was in turn connected to an SBC DSL line. Today I'm running a Linksys
WAP connected to an SMC router connected to a cable modem via Astound
Broadband. In between, I've had a Belkin WAP. It doesn't seem to make
any difference -- every now and then, the signal from the WAP vanishes
and all the computers on the wireless network show no available
wireless networks.

The Linksys WAP I'm running now -- a Wireless-G Access Point -- has a
green light designed "Act" that flashes very quickly when all is
working correctly. When the signal drops, that light stops flashing
and goes dark.

Linksys had me connect from my desktop computer directly to the WAP,
change my IP configuration to match the WAP's, then change the
settings through the Web browser (I changed the IP of the WAP, the
channel from 6 to 11, and the name of the network). Then I cabled back
to the router and everything was fine -- for about 20 minutes.
Sometimes the WAP drops frequently and nothing brings it back up, and
sometimes it'll be fine for days and when it goes out, it's out for a
few minutes and then comes back on its own.

So I'm stumped! The only thing all these configurations seems to have
in common are the room the WAP is in, the computers on the wireless
network, and the power supply.

Any thoughts?

Shel

If you are using Windows XP, you must disable the 802.1X Authentication for the
wireless card. This can be found under the 'Authentication' tab when looking
at the Properties for the wireless card.

It's a Sony VAIO TRA1, XP Home with a Centrino processor. There is no
wireless card. But thanks...
