Widescreen monitor best resolution?

I have a 512MB DDR2 nVIDIA GeForce 7300GS and a 19" widescreen monitor
currently set to 1440 x 900 resolution. Is this the best resolution i
can get? When I try to change it in control panel stuff goes off the
screen or stuff all looks squashed. My graphics card lets me
specifically type in any resolution I want - what better resolutions
could I have?

Set it to the native resolution of the monitor. As to what that might be,
you'll have to check the manual or the manufacturer's Web site.
