Post subject: accessing linksys router and port forwarding

Hi My names steven, although I've seen Tom's hardware and the pc forums before I've never actually used this site.
I'm using Windows vista on my laptop, another desktop, windows xp on a 3rd and 4th desktop.
I am using a linksys wireless wrtg router, and connect to the internet via verizon high speed internet. (little black modem)
The main problem is on my vista computer which connects through a standard wireless thing and has worked well up until today when attempting to port forward.
Now I cannot access the security page for linksys.

What happened was I tried to set up a static IP: msprompt > Ipconfig /all.> got the information subnet mask default gateway and dns servers>implemented it in my shared network> accessed the secuirty page in the linksys 10.0.01 using my username and pw> added the port I wished to forward.
After all this it still said that my port was closed, so i went back to the security page and looked at it.. There was an option that said use this IP: and I figured I'd put a number I got from issuing a static IP address into it.
When I did that I lose internet connection immedietly and it said Ip coflict.

What I did afterwards to get the internet back, was go to network sharing>manage networks>right click properties on my network> and switched back to auto detect IP.. >rebooted and i got my internet back!
but unfortunately I can't access the secuirty page for link sys via 10.0.01.
Also I haven't forwarded my part.

I read on this website:http://www.pcforumz.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=6288&highlight=linksys+wireless+router
a guy having similar problems.
The suggestion was to remove the hard-coded IP address and letting the desktop pick it up on its own. I don't really understand what that means..

I really just want to forward my parts.. windows firewall is off, and I don't see any other firewalls on..
Help?

I figured out what I was supposed to do, I unplugged the internet, and directly connected to the modem, as someone suggested. Then I remembered the IP i changed. it was originally "Starting IP" last 3 digits 100. i changed it to 106.. thus creating conflicts.

Still need to port forwards as I'm only downloading at .6 kb per second now. >.<

I've been having trouble with my utorrent app. Today I finally got a green light, but it only lasted a few minutes and my smile dissapeared.

I'm running vista, using verison highspeed internet. I have a router linksys wrtg and have went through the tutorial several times at portforward.com. also I've reset utorrent and the router several times as well.

I obtained the IP default gateway subnet mask and dns ips, using Ipconfig /all in msprompt. Afterwards I clicked on the network properties setting up the Static IP. Then I went to my routers setup screen and added the acception to my gaming option. the port I'm forwarding is 49666.

As far as I can tell I don't have any firewalls, I've disabled windows firewall and allowed it as an exception in both windows firewall and utorrent.

When testing the port, It says my port 49666 is closed.
Upon further scouring of the web I've found others with my same router having similar problems, I clicked and found out that under the linksys setup page >administrators> Disable Upnp > solved the problem.
When I did this I got a green light for a few minutes but now it's back to yellow exclamation point.

Right now the stats for the torrent are:
Seeds 4/8 5 in swarm peers 6/23 14 in swarm
downloading at 12.5 kB/s uploading at 13.5 second.
I don't know what to do I need my ports forwarded. the highest I got was 40 kB/s I am wondering if it's the torrent itself.
