Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>soyo (more info?)

I recently put my Dragon+ into a new case, and now it won't boot up. All
fans and lights come on but there is no video or POST beeps. According to
the manual, this means a possible short with the case. So I removed the
board from the case and fired it up. Same result. Could it be a power
supply issue? It is a new 300 watt Enermax power supply that came with the
case. I tried starting it with just the CPU and video card. Same result.
Just the CPU...same result. I swapped the out the CPU (Athlon 1700+) with a
brand new Athlon 2100+. Same result. The 3 sticks of PC2100 RAM are
confirmed good in another box. Any suggestions?

did you made any changes before putting your Dragon+ into new case
i.e. new bios?
Which D+ (266A-K7V?), bios kvxa2ba7? - if yes then you`ve to clear
the CMOS.

No, I didn't make any changes. And I cleared the CMOS anyway. I think the
current BIOS is 2ba7. And I believe it is a 266, not the 266A, but how do I
make sure?

unplugged power supply when clearing the CMOS?

266A, just asked cause of the 333 D+, thats a diff. board

which 1700+ and 2100+ - Palomino or Thoroughbred?
Board is able to hande the T-bred?
(see <94f3db7e.0302240650.7a60652d.RemoveThis@posting.google.com>)

So trying this first with the 1700+ (if Palomino)

clear CMOS and be sure to unplug the power supply before

just put 1 RAM-DIMM in, only graphiccard, no HD ect.

be sure the CPU Fan is connected properly (rpm should
be something > 1.600 rpm otherwise plug cpu-fan to
conn. 2 and use some highspeed fan at cpufan1 w. booting,
then disable Fan-protection at PC-health in BIOS)

if that should work try same proc. with the 2100+ and
then insert HD, opt. drives ect. (jsut 1 pc. each time)

else, ask at the soyo support

I did try that with the 1700+ (Palomino). The 2100+ is a Thoroughbred. I
tried it with the 2100+ too. Can't get to the BIOS screen to adjust
anything. No video or beeps or anything. All fans and light power up fine
though. Vid card is a Ti4200 that worked fine in previous case too. Do you
have an address for Soyo support?

Only thing left is to exchange the video card with another, even if
you must borrow one from a friend. If you still have the same prob,
your board is bad. Nothing else is left to test, you did everything
right!

just
<http://www.soyousa.com/support/contactsupport.php?contactsupport=1>

you`ve tried the 1700+ in another MB (maybe damaged and MB won`t
support the new T-bred)?

Good luck and when system is working tell us the faught.

PootDog

try removing from case, install one module of ram, one video
card, the 1700+ and cooler. sometimes if there is a bad power connection
to any device then the power supply cannot get whats known as a power
good signal and nothing is initialized. Since the board was working then
I would suspect something like that. Don't give up, sometings what
appear to be totally dead motherboards can come back to life, have seen
it many many times. Try resting the CMOS jumper a few times again. Do
you have another power supply you can try ? from the old case ?
