I can boot normally from scsi hard drive, WinXP Pro.

When I attempt to boot from floppy it sees it as boot disk, runs disk
for several seconds, then hangs at blinking cursor. Tried Win98 disk,
Partition Magic boot disk, newly formatted boot disk from WinXP.

Same when trying cd, says this is a bootable cd, starts to access it,
then says loading dos, then hangs.

Both a-drive and cd are selected as boot options in bios.

What is it you are trying to do booting form floppy or CD?

It seems it does not want to boot with the SCSI device there?

have you tried removing the SCSI drive and see if it will boot?

Have you disabled boot in the SCSI BIOS?

I unplugged the 2 scsi drives completely, no difference. Didn't remove
the scsi controller. Though I don't think this should make a difference.
And the first boot device in the bios is floppy a.

I want to access partition magic from dos to replace drive c with new
larger drive.

Can't do fast response here from work computer, the problem computer is
the home unit.

SCSI cards that are bootable have their own BIOS that can override the
system setting sometimes make sure the SCSI BIOS is Not set to boot. It may
be looking for drivers to load for the SCSI card and that is causing the
hang?

On F5 BIOS of SINXP, a couple of us at abxzone.com had similiar problems
trying to boot certain versions of DOS (from DriveImage and Ghost). A
member there called Xenos discovered that enabling onboard firewire allowed
you to boot from the disks. Perhaps you should try this if you have
firewire disabled. Problem was also solved in a BIOS update.

I don't have onboard firwire on this mb. And I can't update bios since I
can't boot from floppy.

Any other ideas?

Make sure floppy drivre works in DOS or Windows, you may have bum
drive.

GA-7VRX/GA-7VRXP Motherboard
(3) Press "Enter" to enter "BIOS FEATURES SETUP" menu. Use the arrows
to highlight the item "1st Boot Device", and then use the "Page Up" or
"Page Down" keys to select "Floppy".

I believe your board has Q-Flash, this should allow you to flash from within
the BIOS with the new BIOS file on the floppy. Gigabyte also has the @BIOS
utility for flashing from Windows.

I flashed the bios with the @BIOS from windows. Now to figure out how to
keep WinXP from yellow flagging the promise controller in device
manager. Tried installing the drivers from the Gigabyte cd, no help.
Maybe it is because I don't have any IDE devices? I'll try disabling in
the BIOS.

Anyhow, still won't boot from a floppy, though it reads floppy fine in
Windows.
