I currently have a Canon Powershot A75, purchased about 3 years ago. It has
3.2 megapixels. At the time, we thought it would be enough as we RARELY do
large photos.
However, we now use Picassa software and do a lot of cropping. But it turns
out that is just like enlarging pictures so if we crop a few times the
quality suffers.
Anyway, our purpose is to have a digital camera for vacation pictures,
pictures of grandchildren, etc. We like the Canon. It is easy to use. We
also like the basic quality.
We also use a Canon Pixma printer and like it a lot and hope to keep using
it.
It is probably time to look at a new camera. Any suggestions (reasonably
priced)?

If you like Canon cameras you should check the Canon Digital camera site.
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fc...goryid=
There is a wide choice.
Go for at least 6 Megapixels and above.
The High-end Advanced are the best and most money.
The PowerShot G7 is one I would love to own.

Better? Only *better* if you want the super long zoom. I didn't realize that
there was an S5 IS. I thougt that the S3 IS was the newest one. I have an S2
IS and love it, but if I were going to buy another camera I'd be really
tempted to buy the Canon A710 IS. It's 7 MP, 6X optical zoom with Image
stabilization.
I agree that Canon is the way to go, IMO Canon has the Digicam market sewn
up. Not to say that other manufacturers don't make good cameras, but Canon
seems to cover all the bases so well.

I stand corrected. I just went to canon's web site and saw the S5 IS.
Sweet camera. Some advantages is has over the 710 IS are an articulating LCD
and an Electronic Viewfinder. When I got my S2, I figured the articulating
LCD was just a toy. I really like it, use it all the time.
Another thing I really like is the EVF (electronic viewfinder) I know some
people don't like it cause there's a "black out" moment when you are taking
the picture. I like it cause I rarely use the LCD to frame a picture. All
the settings are viewable in the EFV, so I can mess around with settings
without having to swing the LCD out.

I've got a G7. I carry it in my coat pocket at all times (well,
except in 96 degree weather, when I don't carry a coat). With the
zoom and image stabilization, it has better resolution than my eyes.
At first I couldn't take pictures of flying swallows with it. But
turns out I can, if I use the viewfinder rather than the LCD. I still
can't get them in focus. I can get ants in focus though, see the
hairs on their backs. Trick there is to use macro and not zoom at
all. It often chooses to focus on the ground rather than the ant
though. And of course it does well on nonchallenging things like
children and flowers and sunsets. >> Stay informed about: Need new camera suggestions |

One suggestion. If you are running into pixelation when cropping you may not
have your camera set for the highest resolution. With the 3 mp camera I have
to blow it up or crop it a lot before it gets bad.
