Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>dcameras (more info?)

Hi! Recently I am applying for a personal assistance program with the gov.

but I have tried to comply with its requirements that is the photos must be
taken with

a dig.camera with a resolutiion of exactly 300x300 pixel ( 2inch x 2inch)
and must not exceed 61,000 bytes on each photos.

I am using a Benq D50 digital camera ( entry level) but the lowest it go was
a 1MB pixel and upto a max.5MB pixel.
and its photos resolution are 400 and above.I have tried reducing all the
pixel to only 1Mb, lower IS0 and lighting and etc.
No matter how much I have tried I can never meet the above specs.

Please help
thank-you in advance.

The number of pixels doesn't give you a dimension. Are you sure they didn't
say a 2"x2" photo at 300x300 dpi (dots per inch)? Is this to be printed or
for onscreen? At any rate you will need a photo editing program to resample,
crop, etc., to get it to their specifications.

It is easy to resize the image from your camera to the size that you want.

Shoot the picture at the best resolution of your camera, then resize that
image in a photo editor. The more pixels you have in the original image, the
better the reduced image looks.

If you do not have a Photo Editor such as Photoshop, Download the free
Irfanview and plugins (important!).
It has some photo editing ability and a very good photo resizing ability.
Plus it does batch processing where you can apply the resize to all your
photos at one time (The ones you select).
http://www.irfanview.com/

There is also the free Picasa from Google. It is more of an organizer than
photo editor.

I prefer Irfanview, it does a great job of resizing.

If your request is for a 2" X 2" at 300 DPI, then the image you need is 2" X
300dpi=600 pixels by 600 pixels.

This is a common mistake. DPI has nothing to do with the resolution of a picture.
A printer and its' software determine the DPI required for printing based on the
quality the customer wants and the quality of the picture. It is also referred to
as LPI (lines per inch).
Most paint program can change the PPI (pixels per inch) of a pic which determine the
total size of a pic when printed at 100%. The higher the PPI the smaller the pic will
be printed.
If the OP resizes the pic to 600x600 pixels then sets the PPI to 300/inch it will print
at 2 inch x 2 inch at 100% scale. He also needs more imformation including what format
the pic has to be. If it were me and I wanted a quality pic I would have a much higher
resolution (whatever the camera is capable of) with the appropriate PPI to bring it to
2 x 2 inch and save it as a JPEG below 61Kb. If they require something like BMP then
just keep reducing the size of the pic until it can be saved at that size.
