crossover between router and modem?

how can i tell if there is a performance or latency difference?
i know that he thinks that there is; of course.. he also thinks that
having 3 switches is better than 2; and that me leaving machines on; on
a switch that isn't on his critical path slows down his network speed

i mean.. for real

how can i detect these things? measure latency to the microsecond or
something like that?

can i just call GeekSquad?

I doubt you can make good measurements to the microsecond without a
massive investment.

Put ping can give you some information.
