Exact same thing happend to me as well except that the focus screen came
back really dirty also, the Xt went faulty a few weeks later with a group of
hot pixels all in one spot even on short exposures. They had it 6 weeks and
it came back worse than it went. I made the retailer change it for a Nikon
but I dont expect their customer service to be any better either. I reckon
they are all as bad.

Brought my 20D into the NJ repair facility two days ago. They cleaned
it (for free) while I waited. Took about two hours. If you live near a
Canon facility and physically bring it in, they will do this for free -
in or out of warrantee - as often as is needed. So they said. They
people were very nice.

you know, that is one thing that i must give the Canon people... their
customer service rep was very nice and extremely knowledgeable... i live in
KC, MO and the closest repair facility is the NJ one...

i talked to a shop down here.. they said they will clean the sensor for $60
and take about a day... the thing i dont like that (besides the price) is
that if it gets dirty while im on vacation, i want to be able to clean it...
i read some websites and, with a gentle touch, it doesn't look too
difficult...
