Have an IC7 board with a couple of WD 80Gig special edition IDE drives. I'd
like to use the SERILLEL2 adapter to setup my RAID array but would first
like to get feedback from those that have used this adapter.

Thanks.

using it on a non-raid PATA drive on the SI SATA controller on an IC7-G
without issue for probably around 18 months or so...

I've been using a pair of them on the Intel SATA controller of my IS7
with two 120GB Seagate drives since March and they haven't skipped a
beat.

The only negative thing I could say about this setup is that SMART
monitoring doesn't work through them but then how useful is SMART
anyway?

It does what it says on the tin. No more or less to say about it than that.

Only thing to make sure of is that they're well secured into the drives. It
may be worth applying your choice of insulation tape, hot glue or silicone
sealant to bind the adapter onto the back of the drive a little more firmly,
as it's not hard for the connector to be partially pulled out when the wires
are pulled round a case.

It's a moot point. As you suggest it's not very useful, and in any case
support for this protocol is quickly disappearing from both drives and
controllers.

Indeed, the lack of SMART support on your system may be nothing to do with
the adapters; could simply be that it isn't present in the drives.

NO PROBLEM.

Using 2 Serillel2 in a IC7-G with a couple of WD SE drives for the
past 12 months.

It's present and worked when they were connected through a Promise
FastTrak in my last setup. I have no use for most SMART features but
temperature reporting would be handy.

Yeah, it sticks out too far, and, as mentioned, it's none too tight. It sticks out
about 1 3/16" to which you can add another inch for the SATA cable. In a
small case, or one which mounts the drives sideways, this could be a problem.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
