Hi Folks,
Need some help and hoping one of you brilliant people can help
this somewhat novice. Here is what I am trying to do. I have a
computer which I am installing a new drive to. I have formatted the
drive and the computer recognizes the A drive and hard drive but how
do I get it to recognize the CD rom drive (CD-Writer 16E) so I can
install Windows. The CDRW shows when I look at the BIOS but when I
boot up the system all I can read is the A & C drive. Is there a
driver I would need or should it be reading the Windows disk
automatically? Please someone lead me down the right road so I can
get this going and my wife off my back. Please email any suggestions
to me at rauras.TakeThisOut@flash.net . Thanks in advance. Rick

Actually after you have done it will seem pretty simple Rick.
For WIN 98SE and every Windows advance there after and:
IF you have a fairly new machine (Like built after 1999) all you need
to do is enter CMOS Setup and change your boot sequence to A-D
(Assuming your new CD drive is "D") and save the changes then restart
with the CD in the drive.
Every time you start your machine you get a message on how to access
CMOS Setup like press the delete key or pressing a function key like
F10 or F5. On new machines this message doesn't last too long so you
may have to restart a few times before you see the correct
instructions to access the BIOS user changeable part CMOS. Then you
gots to look for a heading that allows you to change your boot
sequence as described above. Be careful in CMOS Setup and only change
what you need to. If your trying to install Win 95 or someth'n else
you'll have to find another machine to make a Start Disk from on
floppy so you can boot to a DOS based floppy Windows setup.
I realize this is a quick and dirty response and will hang around in
this group for 15 minutes to see if you have other questions or if
someone else offers assistance. You didn't tell us what Operating
Environment you were trying to load or what BIOS manufacturer, Version
/ Manufacturer your PC has or it's age so the group can't give you
specific instructions.
But do not fear. You'll get there. It ain't broke, It just doesn't
understand.
