Does that video card and monitor have both analog and digital connections??
Try hooking both up at the same time..........then under the ATI control
center see which one is set to primary display...chances are its the Analog.
Switch them around so that the Digital is Primary and analog is
secondary...then restart.

Once upon a time with a 9500 Pro I needed to do this for the same problem.

Maybe you can e-mail ATI support -or- change the TFT monitor
where you bought it -or- maybe try a different graphics card...?

My own 9800-Pro card was made by Sapphire.
Works like a dream apart from a shortage of on-board VRAM Sad

This is a very good point..

I have tried switching them around but Icannot install the digital
driver onto "secondary" because the properties box for the monitor is
greyed out....also I can't select the "secondary" from the monitor
driver installation CD...Hmmm..I think you may be onto something here
though.....

It seems that I can't install the driver on the monitor because the PC
thinks it is not connected to secondary port (although it is) but as
far as I know the pc won't detect the dvi cable unless the driver is
installed...it's a catch 22....

Or maybe this isn't how it works...(it's plu n play after all)...

So how do I install the monitor driver onto "secondary"?

I dont run ATI anymore but I seem to remember that it was the Catalyst
Control Panel that showed the 2 monitors...where it showed the Primary as
analog and the secondary as digital.........and I switched them around.
God ..that was a loooong time ago

You are correct...It is where you say but it doesn't work. After I
enable the secondary display it just flips back to primary. Is it
actually possible to enable Sencondary without a monitor being
attached to the port?
