Your memory should give the maximum memory bandwidth to the CPU (up to a 400
MHz CPU clock) with a 1:1 CPU clock : Memory clock ratio (FSB of 1600 MHz,
Memory bus of 800 MHz and CPU clock 400 MHz, Memory clock 400 MHz.) At this
point your memory would still be running at specification speed. My belief,
at the moment, is that a 1:1 CPU clock : memory clock ratio can supply full
bandwidth to the CPU, while a ratio like 2:3 or 1:2 allows better
performance when memory <-> CPU and memory <-> PCI-E transfers are both high
volume. I think the CPU itself benefits little when the memory bus speed
exceeds the FSB speed. See my reply to 'afi777' that lists the results of
SiSoft Sandra memory benchmarks. I have not gotten to the point of testing
the performance of my entire system yet.

Glad to help. Please continue to post your experiences and questions.
Every post helps everyone who wishes to overclock. It is especially a help
when trying to overclock new processor lines, new chipsets, and new memory
speeds.

I tell u this...I finally overclock my processor to 2.2 ghz ( cpu host
frequency at 250) cause I set my memory multipier to 2.66 and everything
work fine. tell me what is better for boost performance if my
processor is higher frequency or with my memory has more bandwith. at
this moment with 2.2ghz my memory show 4500mb/s (2.66 multipier) , but
whene I change to 2.6gzh and memory multipier to 1.5 , memory has only
3500mb/s. what is better ? >> Stay informed about: help with GA-945p-s3 |

hello I have just brought the exact same items and seem to be having
the same problems.
e4300 chip
ga-945p-s3 (rev1.0)
Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-5400C4 TwinX
Hyper type m 580w psu
secondhand x1900xt 256 meg
I wanted to get to about 2.7-3ghz with the overclock but have too
found problems.
I am at 2.5 at the mo with fsb set to 280 and ram at 1.5 and stock
voltage on everything.
I find if I raise the ram to 2.0 then it wont boot. Ive tried more
voltage in the ram but find I have to put 0.4volts to get it to boot.
dont wont to run my ram at +0.4v so have cut the ram back to 1.5
I have updated the bios to F5 (the latest version) but have tried f2
and f4 aswell.
Any ideas why the ram wont boot with a multiplier of 2 above 220 fsb?
I can run the ram with a multiplier of 2.66 at standard fsb (200) >> Stay informed about: help with GA-945p-s3 |
