I bought an XPC World Cyber Games edition a couple of years ago strictly for gaming. It's not overclocked or anything and has separate sound and video boards instead of the onboard stuff and 1G of Kingston memory. Suddenly one day I went to turn it on and got nothing but the fan running continuously no post screen or anything. I turned it on and off a bit and finally got it to boot. It then gave me a message that Bios had changed but I didn't notice anything different when it prompted me to enter bios and save the current settings. Now if windows boots it'll freeze on me sometimes when I'm playing or even starting a game so I'll have to hit the reset button and guess what? It does the same thing all over again. Does this sound like My MOBO is going out? what can I do to test it? Is Shuttle pretty good about repairing or replacing defective MOBOs? TIA. -- Mark -- >> Stay informed about: Need help with XPC

I haven't cleared the CMOS but that wouldn't explain the system suddenly freezing up. I did notice my voltages were a bit on the low side in the p/c health menu. I'm talking hundredths of a volt. Maybe we got screwed. A couple weeks ago my world cyber games edition machine started doing random reboots. I've restored it to factory settings and it is still randomly rebooting, only more often now. I'm not getting any bios messages, nothing shows up in the event log. Turning verifier on only produces a BSOD with a message saying STOP and a bunch of numbers. This is really a mess! I've got several gig of photos I need to process, and this little laptop I'm using now simply won't do the job. Is there any chance at all this condition can be fixed, or was it an expensive mistake to think that the WCG machines were good? It's hardware somewhere. I turned it on this morning and went directly to the bios setup. Left it there on the health screen. Voltages all within .1, e.g. 4.94 instead of 5. Thanks. I was beginning to look at the power supply, I guess I'll just go ahead and order one. Just wish I hadn't tried the factory restore, since now I've got to reinstall my working suite. I looked for another place to plug in the main fan, but can't see any other header with the same shape. You have to extract the PSU and dismantle it to see if it's the caps there. I've also had trouble with whatever drives the main fan in a couple of shuttles. They both would stop driving the main fan, whatever the bios setting. This caused a shutdown. I switched them over to the other M/B header, but they also went duff eventually. Got the new power supply, went in without a hitch. perhaps five minutes into starting to see what I had, it rebooted. Nothing in the event log. One interesting thing is that this laptop, which is plugged into the same outlet, beeped twice. As if maybe there was a power surge coming from the shuttle? Or a sudden draw down? I don't know what would cause the lap top to beep twice. Could this possibly something wrong with the power to this outlet? I've peered inside with a flashlight, all the caps appear to be ok, no swelling. Dust is gone long ago. I'll try another outlet, though there aren't any extra in this room. Ran an extension cord from another outlet and that seems to have done the trick. So at least i got to clean out all the extra stuff and reinstall everything. And lose a week. Anyone need a power supply, this is the 250W xpc internal power supply? Any hints on how i could have detected or measured the power at the outlet? The gounding is ok, and when I check voltage it appears to be ok. My PC has been a bit unstable of late. I have had to reinstall windows several times in the last few weeks. I thought I had fixed it when I removed one of the memory modules but after a while it happened again. I am going to have a look at the motherboard in more details as I'm sure I have a dodgy cap by the CPU. might try and replace it myself, been a while since I touched a soldering iron thought. But I was thinking of a new PC anyway so it goes wrong no real loss, the instability of the system is causing more trouble than its worth.
