help: ibm laptop keeps on beeping.....

this is an ibm 600e, which i have used for over 5 yrs. lately,
whenever it goes into powersaving mode, turn off the monitor, it will
start beeping every 1 to 2 min. despite the fact that i have turned
all my sound off, it still beeping. and i have uninstalled my sound
driver, it still beeps. it will stop beeping momentarily if someone
is using the keyboard. questions:

how do i find out what makes it beep?
how do i turn the beep off?
